How TrendTune works
Four steps, running automatically every day, so you always know what's trending before it peaks.
We scan YouTube Shorts daily
Every 24 hours, TrendTune's pipeline crawls thousands of YouTube Shorts across 10 music categories — dance, pop, K-pop, hip-hop, Latin, anime edits, and more — spanning regions worldwide including the US, Korea, Mexico, and the UK.
We identify every song automatically
Each Short is processed through a two-pass identification system. First, we parse video titles and descriptions for song credits. Then we use audio fingerprinting via Shazam to identify songs that aren't labelled — so nothing slips through.
We score songs by velocity, diversity & freshness
Every song gets a Hot Score — a composite of how fast its view count is growing (velocity), how many different creators are using it (diversity index), and how recently it started trending (recency decay). This surfaces songs on their way up, not ones that have already peaked.
You see what's trending before it peaks
The TrendTune leaderboard shows you the top songs ranked by Hot Score, with copyright status, view counts, and freshness indicators. Filter by trend window to find songs that are just starting to break — and post your content before everyone else catches on.
Understanding copyright status
One of the most important things creators need to know before using a trending song. Here's what each status means:
No active copyright claim detected on this song. Generally safer to use in monetised content — but always double-check on YouTube Studio before posting.
This song has an active copyright claim. You can still use it, but the rights holder may claim revenue from your video or restrict it in certain regions.
We couldn't automatically verify the copyright status. Check manually in YouTube Studio's Audio Library or by uploading a test video before publishing.
Frequently asked questions
How often is the data updated?
The pipeline runs daily. Every morning, TrendTune scans fresh YouTube Shorts and recalculates Hot Scores for all tracked songs, so the leaderboard reflects what's actually moving right now.
What does the copyright status mean?
"Free to use" means no copyright claim was detected — generally safer for monetised content, but always double-check before posting. "Licensed" means the song has an active claim — your video may still be allowed, but revenue could be claimed by the rights holder. "Check first" means we couldn't verify the status automatically.
How is the Hot Score calculated?
Hot Score combines three signals: view velocity (views per day since first spotted), creator diversity (how many different creators are using it — organic spread scores higher than one viral post), and recency decay (songs spotted in the last 30 days score higher than older ones). Scores are normalised so the top song always shows 100.
Which platforms does TrendTune cover?
Currently YouTube Shorts, with Instagram Reels support coming soon. The pipeline covers content from the US, South Korea, Mexico, the UK, and more — giving you a global view of what's trending, not just one region.
Is TrendTune free?
